4 ways you can be a Black Panther while building your business
In a business, much like the forest, we care deeply about getting our important work done efficiently. How efficiently we perform our tasks and how swiftly we execute our plans may very well spell life or death for our businesses.
That is why we emphasize the importance of and rely on things like “our teams”, “strategy,” and “tactics” to guide our thinking and discussions about WHAT we want to achieve and HOW best to do it.
The Black Panthers are not only among the most beautiful animals in Africa, Asia and South America; they also have many characteristics and qualities that ensure its survival in one of the harshest environments in the world.
The Panthers strong personality and vitality leaves many a people in awe.
Well, a better understanding of this animal’s survival instinct could improve your company’s chances of business survival. The Black Panther thrives in environments that are much more deadly than the marketplaces that businesses operate in, and that makes them ideal subjects to learn from.
So what are some of the ways you can emulate a black panther and gain a business advantage?
Here are four ways you can do so:
Develop a deadly laser Focus
A panther mainly hunts on its own, so when a panther is hunting it uses ALL its senses to accomplish this task at hand. When a Panther hunts it ambushes, stalks and stealthily sneaks up on its prey until it is in range to grab it. For this to happen, it needs to be insanely focused.
You need to do this as well in your business.
If you want to build a successful business you need to have the kind of focus that leaves no room for any sort of distractions.
This will mean eliminating all the distractions until the objective has been achieved. Doing so is the only way you can achieve tasks and goals swiftly and efficiently.
Distractions are what are stopping you from focusing.
Among the things that are constantly distracting you are your mediums of entertainment (for example the Television), your friends that only serve the purpose of bringing you down, and your online social networks.
You also need to start meditating in order to improve your focus. Ten minutes of mediation right when you wake up will clear your mind and help you focus on what needs to get done for the day.
In order to be such a focused entrepreneur, you need to be able to plan ahead so that you know what to do and when to do it.
Become a champion at Flexibility
Panthers are the hidden champions of flexibility. They are flexible in every imaginable way and they are the ultimate opportunists, adapting themselves to every change in habitat that might happen.
They are excellent runners and climbers, with the ability to attack from the ground and from trees, and hunt excellently either at night or during the day.
How flexible can you become? How quickly can you adapt to change in you environment?
No doubt, flexibility is a quality that an entrepreneur needs in this Modern age with these ever changing environments.
It is a quality that is needed in order to survive. How quickly you can react to market changes and what your competitors do, or how quickly you can adapt to your employees changing circumstances or business circumstances will very well determine whether you continue for the foreseeable future or die with change.
A great entrepreneur is flexible and takes advantage of every opportunity that may arise from a change he did not anticipate for.
That is how they win.
Panthers are extremely protective, of their cubs and their territory. Going within range of either is not advised.
“They greatly value what is theirs and won’t easily give it away.”
How willing are you to protect your team? How ready are you to fight for them? How badly can you fight your share of the market?
Putting up a fight is the strategy of choice for aggressive entrepreneurs and companies, specifically those dwelling in hostile environments that threaten to erode their competitive advantage.
If you are in a hostile industry or environment, you need to be able to react quickly and stage vicious attacks if challenged for resources or territory.
Protect what is yours as if your business depended on it.
Because it does.
An entrepreneur in a hostile environment that will follow a panther’s strategy will take a proactive role in going after the weaknesses in competitors and may adopt direct and forceful approaches in doing so.
Black Panthers are very brave animals. They are so strong mentally and physically that nothing can stop them in life. They guide themselves into the unknown and they don’t need anybody’s advice to do so. Being brave and relying on their instincts is something that is in their blood.
If you want to succeed as entrepreneur you need such bravery.
Running a business has so many challenges that just as soon as one is overcome, another one quickly arises. And some of these challenges are more daunting than others and they will threaten the survival of your business. When times like these occur, as a leader you will need to listen to advice but more importantly trust your instincts to help you overcome what you company is going through.
You will also need to show those that work and follow you that you, along with the rest of them, are capable of handling the problem and move forward to greater success.
Being brave will be an important highly valuable quality to have.
Creativity is something that we urgently need to re-inject into our corporate lives in order to remain successful in a changing marketplace. It is also something that we can use in our personal lives if we wish for it to be more meaningful.
